DEFAURA, INC. AND THE ENVIRONMENT
deFaura will donate at least 10% of its net profits only to organizations that run projects which objective and main means comply with the principles of sustainable development as stated below.
As defined by the United Nations Brundtland Commission Report, Our Common Future, sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Within this definition, sustainable development must meet three criteria simultaneously:
• Be ecologically sustainable: human activity should not diminish the diversity of life on Earth and should not affect the natural processes that support such diversity;
• Be economically sustainable: human activity should efficiently use resources and efficiently be integrated to the market; and
• Be socially sustainable: human activity should be carried out with equity among the parties which live in the proximity of, use and/or benefit from the resources.
Starting Priority
We recognize our vision of sustainability is very ambitious and that the projects deFaura would like to get involved with are broad in scope. This is due to the complex nature of the causes of un-sustainability and the need for new and innovative ways to attain a sustainable development. We recognize also that to be efficient in the use of our net profits we need to narrow the geographical range and the scope of the projects we are going to be a part of.
Thus, deFaura will start its donations with a focused effort on the Americas (North, Central and South) on two programs:
• Education for sustainable development; andThe geographic and theme scope of deFaura will grow progressively and strategically in time.
• Sustainable management of natural resources (which will include reforestation, carbon sequestration, and habitat restoration.)
